In this hands-on, STEM-themed workshop, teaching artist Jay Mankita brings his traveling makerspace and all materials required for kids (ages 5 & up) and families to build their own artful mechanisms – specifically, linkages and mechanical automata.
Participants construct one or more mechanisms of their own. Jay shows simple methods for making paper levers, wire cranks, and scissor, parallel, and reverse motion linkages. Participants explore and discover properties of the mechanism they are building. Through exploration, experimentation, and play, they bring those ideas to the forefront, letting their mechanisms make their art moveable!
